Universal Design for Learning Treasure Chest

Text to Speech

Historically online learning has been primarily text based which may limit access to courses. Reading level, learner preferences and visual impairments block access to many potential learners. While I am an avid reader, who is fortuante to be able to read the text most days, there are times when tired eyes cause the screen to become blurred. Everyone, at some time, can use a resource to increase access and promote continued learning.

Technology advancements continue to provide tools to add to a treasure chest that will increase access to the content. Today you can install a resource that will read aloud any text on your screen. A resource I recommend is Natural Reader. Read along or sit back and relax while listening. Visit the site today to download the free version and begin using Natural Readers.

There are many resources available to purchase and each day more become available. Microsoft 2007 has included the text to speech option in many of their software applications. Natural Reader is a resource to begin to explore or search the Internet to view what else is available to match the goal of converting text to speech.
