WebQuests
Introduction
edweb.sdsu.edu/webquest/overview.htm - WebQuests - A WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented activity in which most or all of the information used by learners is drawn from the Web. WebQuests are designed to use learners' time well, to focus on using information rather than looking for it, and to support learners' thinking at the levels of analysis, synthesis and evaluation. The model was developed in early 1995 at San Diego State University by Bernie Dodge with Tom March, and was outlined then in "Some Thoughts About WebQuests". (from Bernie Dodge's WebQuest page).
Why WebQuests

What a WebQuest Is Not
Hotlist - a basic list of sites, questions are often not provided - used mainly for starting research papers/topics
Guided Tour, (Cyber or Electronic) FieldTrip - the teacher provides the sites to go to and what to look for at the sites.
Scavenger Hunt - questions are provided and the student must find a site and then find the answer. Sometimes a pool of sites are listed, but no connection between site and question is made
WebQuest - a specialized web activity that presents a higher order question to be answered (not just a fact gathering activity). This is done by creating scaffolding questions and tasks then assigning the students roles to work in groups to complete the task and scaffold questions and thus provide AN answer to the question.
4. keithstanger.com/filamentality.html - Filamentality - a fill in the blank site to create different web activities
5. websearch.about.com/library/weekly/aa051401a.htm - some basic definitions - mainly covers scavenger hunts. Does not have a great definition for WebQuests
