Web Companions - Using Media Web Sites in the History/Social Studies Classroom

Introduction

The World Wide Web is full of wonderful and useful educational materials. This workshop will take you on a tour of some specific sites within the web. We will preview media sponsored sites, examine what they can offer teachers and how the site and provided materials can be used in the classroom. This class will focus on web sites useful to History/Social Studies teachers K - 12.

The History Channel

  1. http://www.thehistorychannel.com - try out the speeches link. You will find the complete audio of many famous speeches. The Exhibits link will to an area with in depth information for various subjects. Join a discussion and debate many important historical topics.

  3. Click the Study Guides link in the Classroom area to find a wonderful resource for History Channel programs. Many of the programs are available on video even if your cable provider does not carry the History Channel.
  4. Click the Calendar link to see a timetable of programming event. While at the Calendar, click on the Program Descriptions or Classroom Material (same as Study Guide link from above) links for more information.
  5. Find the Save Our History Link and follow it for free classroom materials!
