Resource: LivePollEverywhere
Link: www.polleverywhere.com
Purpose: Live audience polling
Recommendations: UDL Principles best met
Students can submit homework orally replacing text.
Benefits:
-
Great as a "something" different lesson and method to collect results. Works well for the end of the year or right before a holiday when students are scattered.
-
Useful way to bring PDA and handheld technology into the classroom. Instead of having students trying to hide using cell phone, can have the phones out and easy to monitor.
-
Other polling devices often cost over $500.00, require hook up and creation of the "poll".
-
Students are normally familiar with cell phone technology so tech training time often is short.
Roadbumps to Watch:
-
Check texting plans before using.
-
Not everyone has a cell phone, perhaps can share.
-
Only the first 30 are free... if this is a technology/method you like it is worth looking into the plans.
-
Schools usually ban/limit cell phone... get permission from administrators.
Equipment/Technical Needs:
-
Need to register to create account
-
Under 30 replies or certain schools are free. Other accounts available for fee.
-
The service is free... but texting charges do apply.
-
No software download needed
